Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 16, 2026 · Applies to contextnote.app and related services

In short: the website waitlist only needs your email. The macOS app is local-first — your notes stay on your Mac unless you opt into optional online features or sync through a service you control.

This Privacy Policy explains how Context Note (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit contextnote.app, join the waitlist, or use the Context Note application. For product terms, see our Terms of Service.

1. Who we are

Contact for privacy questions: [email protected].

2. What this policy covers

3. Information we collect on the website

3.1 Waitlist

When you join the waitlist we collect:

We store waitlist entries in a private key-value store used only for invites and product communication. We do not sell waitlist emails.

3.2 Technical / hosting data

Our hosting and CDN provider (Cloudflare) may process standard request logs (IP address, user agent, path, timing) to operate security, performance, and abuse prevention. Those logs are governed by the provider’s terms and our configuration.

3.3 Cookies and analytics

The marketing site is designed to work without advertising cookies. We do not run third-party ad trackers on the waitlist page. If we add optional analytics later, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent.

4. How we use website data

Legal bases (where GDPR or similar laws apply) typically include: your consent (waitlist signup), legitimate interests (security, site operation), and contract preparation (providing early access you requested).

5. The Context Note app (local-first)

Core app data — notes, tasks, meeting recordings and transcripts, clipboard history, and similar content — is intended to live on your Mac in a local database (including encryption options such as SQLCipher) under your control.

6. Optional online features (future)

We may offer optional online capabilities later (for example publishing a personal blog on a domain you control). Those features will be off by default where practical, require your action to enable, and can be turned off so the app returns to a fully local mode. When such features ship, we will describe any additional data processing in this policy or in-product notices.

7. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with:

8. Retention

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures appropriate to a waitlist and marketing site (HTTPS, access-controlled admin tools, honeypot/bot friction). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the app, encryption and system protections (such as Touch ID unlock) are designed to protect data at rest on your device.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data we hold about you, or to object to or restrict certain processing. For waitlist data, email [email protected] with the address you used to sign up. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

11. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 16 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

12. International transfers

Waitlist and website infrastructure may process data in the United States or other countries where our providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

13. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Material changes will be highlighted on the site or by email when appropriate.

14. Contact
